THE MARS GRID
From Planet to Click
The previous Part derived the problem. Now we can finally show the answer.
Mars GRID is Matlas's system of persistent area identities: one nested geography covering the whole surface from planetary scale down to areas roughly a kilometre across. Its canonical hierarchy is:
Mars → Quad → Zand → Province → Sector → Tile → Click
Seeing the hierarchy is the easy part.
The harder question is whether it survives everything Mars asks of it.
Part III therefore moves through five stages:
Reveal — what is GRID?
Planet — how is Mars divided at the largest scale?
Hierarchy — how does the system descend from Zand to Click?
Identity — how does a place stay the same place?
Polar — what happens when longitude collapses towards the poles?
The sequence is deliberate.
First show the architecture.
Then try to break it.
