PART IV - STEPPING INSIDE TIME
Living on a Marian Time

A calendar is not finished when the arithmetic works.

Eventually somebody has to live inside it.

A 668-sol year changes what annual means. A 56-sol month changes what next month feels like. Birthdays, schools, maintenance programmes, budgets and family traditions begin to interact with units designed around another planet.

So far the book has largely looked inward, at the machinery of the calendar. Part IV turns outward.

It widens the lens through Four Scales of Civil Time:

Individual — Live. What does Martian time feel like?
Institution — Operate. How can organisations use it?
Society — Belong. How do dates acquire memory, culture and meaning?
Interplanetary — Connect. How does a Mars-based chronology remain intelligible to Earth?

The movement is deliberate: from one person living through a Marian year, to institutions operating within it, to a society making dates its own, and finally to the relationship between worlds.

The intention is not to design future Martian society.

It is to see whether the calendar gives that society enough useful structure to design itself.
